Women’s Joan of Arctic™ Premium Boot

Women’s Joan of Arctic™ Premium Boot 4.1 5 57 57
Premium Boot I purchased these boots, the Joan of Arctic Premium, for the upcoming snow season here in Afghanistan. I have always wanted to own a pair of Sorel's but the price isn't so forgiving. On the other hand once I purchased these boots I understand why. They are completely worth it and I plan on purchasing another pair if not two. The boots are true to size. I am a 10.5 and purchased an 11 because I like to wear thick socks. They are very warm. A little heavy but as expected. The only thing I wish is that Sorel provided a complimentary second set of boot liners without the fur, so that you could alternate between the two without sacrificing style or functionality. Regardless, I would highly recommend these boots if you're on the fence about any Sorel products. March 9, 2014
Dry feet are good, blisters are not. I have definitely appreciated these boots this winter, however, the first few weeks with them were brutal. The boots are so stiff that they gave me horrible blisters. Then, once they were broken in, on of the snaps broke (less than a month into owning them).I will say that they are very warm, stylish, and keep my feet very toasty (at times too toasty, a good problem to have). February 24, 2014
GREAT BOOTS! I love these snow boots! I put them on with regular thin socks and fet like maybe I could have gone a 1/2 size down like a lot of reviewers recommended but there wasn't that size available so I stuck with my normal. I feel like if they do loosen up it still won't be a problem and these boots are just gorgeous. I love the dark brown leather with the burgundy look. I did have some issues getting them off too, with the lining following my foot out of the boot and getting turned inside out but I think that will eventually get worn in. I'm so glad I got these warm boots, for the first time I've actually hoped for more snow in the the northwest. :) February 23, 2014
Almost Perfect! I'm so pleased w/ this boot. I know my feet will be warm and dry no matter the weather conditions. As others have stated, the back of the boot was a little stiff around my ankle so I simply armed myself w/ some bandaids to cushion the area and had no more problems.I agree they are a little clunky, but that's the style!!! perfect w/ leggings or straight jeans tucked in! February 22, 2014
Awesome boot!!! This is a beautiful boot! Really incredible! It fits perfect and keeps my feet really warm. I get many compliments on it - Kudos to Sorel for making this boot in leather!! February 20, 2014
Love My Boots!! I was a little worried about getting these boots since so many expressed concerns about it hurting their ankles. Well, I really needed boots so I just got them and crossed my fingers. The boots did hurt my right ankle the first couple times that I wore them BUT quickly found out that it was just during the breaking in period. I ended up wearing them around the house for a couple days to stretch the leather out. Now they are awesome and do not hurt!! I went out the other day to shovel snow and stayed warm and dry. February 20, 2014
Best purchase When reading other reviews I was nervous that this boot was going to be heavy and clunky. This is not the case at all. I love these boots, they are super warm and easy to break into, and not heavy at all! They do run a little big, for example I am a size 7 but I ordered a size 6.5 and they fit perfectly. February 18, 2014
Love the Joan of Arctic! Stylish - WarmWish I got 1/2 a size larger February 13, 2014
Great Boot This has been one of the worst winters in Pittsburgh in a long time , and these boots have kept my feet warm and dry. They are comfortable and stylish. I found the boots true to size despite what other reviews stated. February 13, 2014
Boots are really great for intense snow but upper leg portion is VERY STIFF These boots are really good for keeping your feet warm in intense snow but the main problem I'm facing with them is that the boots are not very flexible at the top. They are very very stiff, making you feel a little uncomfortable when walking up and down stair especially. I only bought them two weeks ago and my sister bought a similar pair last year. She promises that they become less stiff with time. However, I must say that the boots themselves are of really good quality and will definitely keep me warm and safe in intense winter. It might not be the best boot for only slight winter as they might be a little too much. February 11, 2014
My toes are frozen After much deliberation, i settled on these boots as they are gorgeous but more importantly on the Sorel name to keep my feet warm. If i was going to spend $200 on a pair of winter boots, they would need to keep my feet warm. For the positive side first, The boots are gorgeous. The quality of the leather and the colour fantastic. That's where it ends. The bottom line is my feet freeze in them. I'm not talking about a day in the outdoors. I mean just wearing them to clear my car off and drive to work. My co-worker has a pair of the Sorel Tofinos that she loves and keep her feet toasty. It was at her suggestion that i picked Sorel. After i told her this, we switched boots for one night to see if it was just me. The next day she told me her toes were frozen in them as well. She described it as "putting a pair of boots on after they had spent the night in a frozen car all night". I couldn't agree more.I am extremely disappointed that my boots have not stood up to the Sorel legacy. I would not recomend these. February 11, 2014
These boots are amazing Having lived in Massachusetts, Michigan, Ohio, and soon to be Chicago, I've had my fair share of winter boots. These babies put all other boots to shame. They have kept my feet toasty warm with -10F temps and dry with 12" of slushy snow. The leather and fur details are fantastic and look great in person. The only drawback I found was that the boots were pretty stiff when I first got them -- felt like I was wearing ski boots to some extent. However, after breaking them in for a few days, they have softened up and I can comfortably wear them all the time. February 9, 2014
Nicer than expected! I read all the reviews so in some ways probably had lower expectations. It is a winter boot and yes it is a wider footbed (which I actually love) and stiff but I absolutely love everything about them! I work in finance and used to wearing fancy heals all the time so wasn't so sure that I would love the style but I do and get compliments on them all the time! Someone told me that these were the nicest looking winter boots they had seen! Thank you Sorel! February 8, 2014
I would return if I could Boots run a half size big and have very poor arch support. I had to exchange to get right size. They are extremely big and bulky feeling in the ankle area. I have a high arch and putting these boots on is huge chore, but taking them off is ridiculously difficult. I have to unlace so much and invariably my heavy socks always get pulled off in the process. I would love to exchange for a different model, but I have worn and needed the tall boot for Chicago deep snow. I will use to get through periods of snow but am way unhappy with them. I'll try putting gel insert to help the arch support problem. THey are also nearly dangerous to drive in....so bulky you can't feel the gas and brake. Sadly, I'm stuck with something I wish I hadn't purchased. I would not buy Sorel brand again when looking for boots. Thanks for askin' though. February 7, 2014
My Favorite Pair of Boots!!! These boots are truly premium! They are built with quality materials and very comfortable. I do suggest ordering a half size down, I usually wear a 9 and an 8.5 fit perfectly. These boots match every outfit, I'm sure I will be wearing them for many years to come! February 7, 2014
Perfect for this brutal winter! I debated between many different Sorel boots, in the end buying these Joan Premiums, the Joan Wedge [also love those] and Conquest Carly [returned.] I am an 8.5-9 and bought these in a 9, they fit perfectly. At first they felt a bit clunky because I wasn't used to wearing snow boots in general, but after 1 wear I love them, they fit perfectly with regular socks or thicker socks, and are much easier to walk in now that I'm used to them and broken them in a bit. The color is really unique too. The black, brown and reddish colors are all dark, so when wearing them they look stylish yet understated but with some depth that you see better when you look at them up close. I bought them to deal with this snowy NYC winter and Ive taken them skiing as well, no complaints at all, they keep my feet warm and dry all day. February 6, 2014
Great boot with great style. I love this boot, I went a half size smaller and it fits very well.m February 2, 2014
Love these! Great boots living in crazy snowy Chicago! January 31, 2014
Sizing Bummer Not sure what is going on with the sizing on these boots ... ordered a half size down (7 instead of 7.5) as indicated by many of the reviews here and my toe hit the very end! They were too tight across the 'knuckles' of the foot and I could never wear them with thick socks. The boots I received were TRUE TO SIZE, not too big as indicated by other reviews. The only thing I can figure is that the sizing on this line is off. I'm a steady 7.5 in almost every shoe and will have to try again, whenever Sorel restocks this boot in my size. Very unhappy, as there are no Sorels to be found in Chicago at the moment and I'd been staking out these boots for weeks.Giving four stars because of the quality of the boot itself is immaculate. Detracting one because the ordering process was a huge hassle and Sorel needs to get its sizing issues in order. January 31, 2014
Achilles - No Joke These boots are made with the quality I'd expect of Sorel - - the one thing is that rubbing on the Achilles that others have mentioned. For me, in particular it's on the right boot...and I have an actual scab on the back of my ankle to show for it. I'm bound and determined to wear them in - and hope that once they soften up a little that the rubbing won't be so bad. Also, the leather upper on these looks more brown in the photo (with a cranberry accent in the stitching and laces) but in 'reality' the leather has more of a cranberry feel all throughout the top section of the boot. I happen to like the color so it's not an issue for me. If you are expecting more of a brown look, it may surprise you. January 30, 2014
fit is sloppy purchased true size and had to return and go down a whole size. Fit was still sloppy and very uncomfortable. Had to return. Sad because they are super cute! January 29, 2014
Love my boots!!! I just recently purchased the Joan of Arctic Premium boots. I do have to say that I really like them. I have a pair of the white Sorels from about 30 years ago. There is nothing wrong with them but I thought it was time for an update.:-)With the cold Minnesota days I've been wearing them everyday!!! January 27, 2014
OK but not what I really wanted Okay, so while the boots are made well and can withstand cold and snowy weather, they're not very cute even though i purchased the premium cognac joan van artic. They are huge and difficult to walk in. I ordered a size 9 and they're such big boots! Not sure one can be fashionable and warm, but i didn't like them once i wore them. January 26, 2014
I love these boots! Warm, waterproof, sturdy, what more can I say. The leather upper is a little stiff, and I had a hard time getting them off the first few times I wore them, but they stretched a bit and it's easier now. I read other reviews that they run a little large so I ordered a half size smaller and the fit was perfect.I think they're a great choice for anyone. January 26, 2014
Beautiful boots Gorgeous color, warm and dry. These boots were exactly what I was looking for - for several days out in the weather in Quebec in January! Think I'll have them forever. Extremely good quality. January 25, 2014
The BEST! These boots are awesome! Wasn't sure how often I would wear them other than walking the dogs on the lakes, but I throw them on all the time! They are great looking and comfy! January 24, 2014
Great Boots I LOVE my new Joan of Arctic boots. They do run a little large, but I'd read reviews so I knew what to expect. I normally take an 8 1/2 - 9, so I ordered size 8 boots and they fit perfectly with room for big, thick wooly socks. They do take a little bit of breaking in, so if you're ordering them for something special, I'd recommend that you get them a little early. We've had a lot of snow and ice and I feel really secure walking on slick surfaces. The best part is that my feet have been toasty warm since my new boots arrived. Highly recommended!!! January 23, 2014
Warm rugged boot - still stylish The Joan of Artic Boot is very warm, very durable, yet quite stylish. The best thing about this boot is that it can withstand the salty and slushy sidewalks of a city after a snow storm, yet still look relatively stylish. You will not have to worry about ruining your shoes, yet will not look silly on your commute to work. They run slightly large, however, not so large that you need to go down a size. I believe they run large so you can wear a thick sock underneath. These boots are very warm and appear very durable - the leather is even waterproof! I bought my last Sorel boots over 10 years ago and they are still in great condition. Hope these will last just as long! January 23, 2014
Warm and comfy Bought these boots for our ridiculously cold winters way up north in the U.P. Of Michigan. They haven't disappointed me yet! January 22, 2014
Lovely Boots I love these boots! My feet are kept nice and toasty as well as fitting in well with my style. January 22, 2014
Joan of Arctic I love the boots, warm, fit great, cute, and feel sturdy. The ONLY negative is they are pretty stiff and there isn't much give to them so if you can't handle the clunky feeling that might be an issue. I can't just stroll walk, they are heavy so it is more like lift and walk if that makes sense. I was a little concerned, but with all of this snow they have been great boots!! Super warm! January 22, 2014
Great winter boot! Love these boots and how warm they are. I was afraid they would run small, but I ordered the same size that I wear in the Tofino (8.5) and they were perfect! Super warm for our Michigan weather which has dropped down to the 20's and below. Only issue is how clunky they are, but that's too be expected if you want this warm of a boot! Just got to get use to the different feel they give compared to a slimmer boot like the Tofino. January 21, 2014
Not Right For Me After scouring the boot sights for hours one weekend, I finally decided to purchase Women's Joan of Artic. I had a hole in my winter boot, using the old bread bag method to keep my foot dry. I wanted a boot that would last for a long time and keep me dry and warm. My Dad grew up in Sorels and I thought it would be just the boot for me. When they arrived I put them on to find they were a bit large, no big deal, but they were super rigid and heavy and my leg and foot felt awkward in them, like when you have to walk with your knees bent with downhill ski boots on. Oh well, just not for me I guess, I sent them back. January 21, 2014
Best Winter Purchase in Years I love these boots! They are super cute, warm, and durable. They are pricy, but I figured they were worth it because of the high quality of the product. Plus, I plan to have these boots for years! January 21, 2014
Great Boots! They are so cute and I've received a ton of compliments on them. I was nervous to buy them without trying them on but they really fit perfectly to my regular shoe size. Because of the leather upper "body" of the boot they are hard to break in but do not hurt at all in the process. It is more that you just walk funny and have a hard time with stairs for a little while. They are SO comfortable and warm. Not one complaint aside from walking like a penguin until they are broken in :0 ).. They also come with burgundy or black lace options. January 21, 2014
couldn't justify the product for the money I have been searching for a warm, comfortable, stylish boot that is not clunky for about a month. I am a former Sorel wearer so returned to find a pair to call my own. Because I waited so long, not a lot in stock in my size (normally wear an 8...ordered an 8 1/2 and they fit perfectly). I hesitated to spend so much on a boot, but this was all that was in stock and they were pretty stylish as well (I prefer function, but like fashion as well). These boots were very warm. You feel like you have a well-made boot while wearing them. The only thing is, the left boot hurt the back of my leg, between my ankle and calf. I wore them around the house for two solid nights but they didn't feel any different. Also, while standing, the boots tend to push your body forward somewhat. I finally decided that I can't justify paying $200 for a boot I don't absolutely love. When I returned them to the Columbia store, everyone loved them and wanted them. The clerks said they wouldn't last the day. Yes, they were cute for a Sorel and the comments almost made me take them back, but the fit wasn't comfortable for me. If they were $125 or so, I'd probably still have them and suck up the uncomfortableness because now I'm back to the drawing board with finding a warm, comfortable, stylish boot. January 20, 2014
No arch support I will keep these boots because they are warm and dry, but they are seriously lacking in arch support. I think for 300$, they should throw in some arches for more comfortable walking. January 19, 2014
Passed the Polar Vortex weather event in Minnesota 2014 I love my Joan of Arctic Premium boots. They run true to size, I know because I listened to the reviews that said they ran big, had to return my first pair. They are warm, keep me dry and were tested in the most recent Polar Vortex in Minnesota. Passed the test! I love my Sorels, last pair of Sorels lasted me 25 years. January 19, 2014
JOAN OF ARCTIC BOOTS - BEWARE These boots are of the highest quality and my wife and I have noticed a lot of women wearing them up here in Chicago. She really wanted a good pair of waterproof boots and these seemed to meet her requirements. Got the boots, she tried them on and wore them around in the apartment building for a day, and by the end of the day her legs were badly aching. She is a cancer patient and also broke her leg last year, so she doesn't have the best stamina and strength right now. So she decided that the boots were just way to heavy for someone like her. Otherwise, the boots are of the highest quality and something I would recommend for cold snowy climates. January 15, 2014
Perfect I needed warm, dry, hiking boots for a trip in France and they're the only shoes I brought. They've worked wonderfully even on very cold and rainy days. Good quality, comfort, and they fit great because I got half a size smaller than I normally wear after seeing everyone's comments about them being too large. January 14, 2014
uncomfortable bend in the back of the calf I wear an 8.5 in shoes and usually get a 9 in boots. Bought the 9 but it was so roomy that my heel kept slipping up in the boot, and since I wanted to wear them hiking, it would not do. The materials are great and they look really cool, but the reason I will not be ordering a half or full size down is that when I walk, the leather along the back calf of the boot folded in on my calves with every step. It pinched enough to hurt and would have really bothered me if I had to walk around in these. My calves are about 16.5 and I am 5'4" so maybe that was part of the problem, but it is probably more likely the tough, inflexible leather, since the boots definitely open up to accomodate my calves. I would like to buy another pair but I think I'm going to wait out this insanely cold season out and maybe next time try shorter sorels or a synthetic upper that will be more flexible with the movement of my leg. It was.sort of like walking in a cast. If I had a false leg, maybe I wouldn't notice, but then I wouldn't need warm boots, I suppose. I won't be buying from the sorel site again because the boots are so heavy and I have to pay return shipping which will probably be twenty dollars. Otherwise I would have exchanged them, but who knows how the next ones would fit and it's not worth it to keep paying when you don't know the quality before you purchase. January 14, 2014
Big I have been searching for a great winter boot and everything has been sold out. I thought these would fit the bill, but they were really big. In both american and european shoes i wear an 8.5 or 9, so thought a 9 would be ok - they were gigantic even with a thick sock and just not that flattering on (I am 5'10" and thin frame). The quality is fantastic so am going to try another style and hopefully they will work out. January 13, 2014
Run big Very nice boot/look. Size runs big though. I'm usually an 8 1/2, went down to an 8, but they are still big and a 7 1/2 would probably fit much better. January 13, 2014
I love these boots These boots are very warm, we've recently experienced temps of 30+ below 0 and they did a good job keeping my feet warm while I was outside. They are pretty stiff leather upper material, but break in fairly easily, I used mink oil rub to help soften and waterproof them and will do that occasionally to restore the brilliant maroon leather color. I definitely recommend this boot and am glad I made the switch from Columbia to Sorrel! January 13, 2014
Good but one little thing.... Great boots. Only issue is the snaps that go around the fur never stay snapped. January 9, 2014
great boot, but oversized I look forward to wearing these boots once the right size arrives. I normally wear a size 8.5 (U.S.), 39 (EU), but the 8.5 in this boot was too big, so I returned it. Am now awaiting the size 8 with much anticipation. I would have given this item five stars if it were not for the sizing issue. The quality of the boot seems impeccable, and the style is great given the serious functionality of the boot. January 8, 2014
A true cold weather boot with STYLE I wanted a stylish boot that was also warm. I'm so glad I bought the premium since the leather upper will last for years to come. They are stiff out of the box in the ankle/lower calf but be patient and you will break them in after a few wears. The stout color is fantastic, with cranberry red and dark brown leather and black fur and black waterproof foot. So versatile for a wardrobe. I am a size 8 but always go up a half size for boots. The 8.5 were great. A tad wide for a regular width foot, but not bothersome. Wider in the heel but again, it doesn't bother me. I have 17 inch calves and these work since they have a wide tongue and I can lace them with no problem. Fantastic for cold WI weather. January 7, 2014
Happy Boot Purchase I searched and searched for the perfect winter boot. I chose the Joan of Arctic...and all of the non-premium versions seem to be sold out from everywhere. So, I decided to pay the extra $$ and just buy these. Inside the of the foot portion of the boot is a little large than "true to size" however will be perfect with a thick pair of socks. The inner lining feels a tad tight the first time the boots go on, however after wearing them around the house for an hour, I can feel them breaking in. The tag on the boot says they are for up to -25 degrees F. They are very sturdy and a bit bulky. However, for a waterproof boot that is leather and lined - I'll take a bit bulky. Bring on the next storm! January 6, 2014
Style is wonderful Just ordered a pair of the Joan of Arc. They are warm and have good traction. I walk a long distance to work each day and I have no support or slippage issues. Also I love the red stitching. My college age daughter visited and wanted to take them home with her. I normally take an 8-8.5 but ordered an 9. THey are perfect with a good pair of ski / wool socks.Teresa McFadden January 5, 2014
Long Shaft not suitable for all These boots are fraught with quality and style. I like them but I don't love them. They are warm and stylish and I know they will last a long time; my husbands are over twenty years old. I three objections:1) I’m 5’4” and the Shaft is too long making it very difficult to get on my legs. In addition to the foot size, it would be nice if there was a long or short size in the shaft for short women; this would simply be a shorter shaft similar to the women's caribou. But the Joan of Arctic would be so much more stylish.2) After wearing both and walking on ice and ice/snow mix, the tread on the Joan of Arctic doesn't seem to perform as well as my husband’s older Caribou tread.3) Perhaps I just need to wear them in, but I think the heavily curved shape of the sole is odd. I like the feel of my husband’s Caribou when walking.I don't think my concerns are worth returning the boot because my husband recalled his being a snug fit for a very long time. It would seem logical that Sorel performed extensive research and development but they need to do more with more women. If I were to recommend the Joan of Arctic Premium boot, it would be too, tall skinny women only. I wish Sorel had a more stylish Womens Caribou boot -- that is the one I would buy after using the Joan of Arctic Premium. January 4, 2014
