How to Measure Your Foot

  • Place your feet flat on a piece of paper and mark your longest toe and the back of your foot. It's best to do this standing and wearing socks
  • Measure the length (cm) straight from your longest toe to the back of your foot using a ruler or measuring tape.
  • Use the chart to find your size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Love love love Love these boots- fits about true to size- you always wanna be a little bigger than normal due to extra thick socks an what not in the winter, They're so warm, cute and comfy!!! August 27, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Big feet bigger problems I was so super excited to order these now that I live in Michigan. But I normally wear a size 12 and although these shoes were amazing, they r way too small and too tight! I need winter boots like these but they are not for big footed ladies or ladies that need a wide shoe size, if they were to make these in a larger size and wide I would definitely buy them! So disappointed and sad, need winter boots and no where to turn! August 26, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Size and first impression review. I just received the WOMEN'S JOAN OF ARCTIC BOOT. I am a size 8.5 in shoes without socks, usually when it comes to buying boots I get them in size 9 because of the socks. Here at Sorel they suggested me to get these boots in a size 8.5 based of my feet length but I went ahead and ordered the size 9 instead. If I would have followed the Sorel sizing suggestion I would have had to return it since 9 is just right, not less not more. Ill try to update about quality and use when winter arrives. For now its just a size review. Also they look really nice but are heavy and like any rubber shoes, they are not super easy to take of and put on but not so hard either. August 19, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome Boot's - They run big These boot's run about a full size bigger than your normal shoe size. If you only go a half size down, it may take longer for them to break in and because of the thick leather and rubber, it can rub the skin and hurt, possibly leaving blisters. Going a full size down is a good idea. If they are a little tight, they do stretch out a little with use. August 5, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Just what i wanted! I have been looking at these boots for over a year now and I finally decided to buy them, and I am very pleased! I will be attending school on the west side of Michigan so I wanted to be prepared for the snow and I've heard great things about the brand. They arrived in a timely manner. everyone says they run small, I don't necessary agree with that. I feel they run true to size. I ordered a size 7 and I'm usually a size 7 no matter what the shoe. my only advice is that if you do like to wear thick socks in the winter, with your winter boots, I WOULD recommend going up half a size. I like to wear my normal socks with boots so I will be fine with the size I ordered. I would also recommend buying these boots before the fall even arrives. I tried to order them for Christmas and they had all but sold out. July 29, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Can't live with them but can't live without them I bought these in Curry. I'll start off with a compliment on the style and detail of the boots-- with one major error aside, they are truly something I would pay upwards of $300 for rather than $150. They are very, very warm. I find my feet sweating when I am getting frostbite up top... I find that they are very heavy... which makes them hard to do a lot of walking in. They are about 2 pounds each, which is a lot more than it sounds like! They are extremely well constructed and it is clear that every detail was carefully thought through. With that being said however, I have one major issue with this boot. After a while of walking, the heel to the back of the calf region begin to get stabbed by a lousy piece of metal on the spine of the boot. The metal is clearly there to make sure the boots hold shape but none the less, the placement of such metal is damaging and almost unbearable. I had to stuff socks down by the back of my calf to try and lessen the pain. And I'm saddened to say that this is not simply a "breaking in period" but rather a product error. I wish I could wear these more often but I simply can not tolerate such a demanding error in these boots. All in all, if that issue with the spine of the boot would be fixed, I would buy again. Rated 5 out of 5 by WOMEN'S JOAN OF ARCTIC™ BOOT I am so excited I bought these boots! I actually got them last winter and they are AMAZING. The rubber comes up just far enough so that the bottom portion does not get ruined. The suede portion is all connected which is a great feature as I did not have the issue of snow getting into the creases of the tongue of the shoe. You can tell this boot was truly made with people who deal with heavy snow falls. This was quite an expensive buy for me as an independent college student, but i'll tell you like I have told others, it was one of my best investments yet. A great crafted boot. I will soon be purchasing the "WOMEN’S OUT N ABOUT™ GLOW BOOT." I am hoping this shoe too lives beyond my expectations from Sorel. P.S. You may want to buy some suede protection spray to keep the suede looking good. I did that when I first got them and occasionally afterwards and mine still look brand new. Even after weeks of walking in 6 to 12 inches of snow. Also, you will have to break them in as the material on the back of the heel rubs your skin almost raw. Wear thick socks for sure!!! Rated 5 out of 5 by Beautiful Boot I am an 8.5 B width in all shoes yet in this boot the 8.5 and the 9 were both too small. This is due to the tremendous liner in this boot, which is why it's so warm. So,after my experience I would recommend going up a size. There has to be "wiggle room" for your toes for warmth. Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for the NYC winter These boots both look and perform great in the snowy, wet, windy bitter cold winters in the North East. I didn't suffer any leakage while navigating slushy corners, or digging my car out of foot deep snow drifts. They kept me warm and looking very stylish from Christmas until the season finally ended in late March. I found them to run a bit large, even with a thicker sock, so order down if your on the lower end of a size. No complaints here! May 27, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by I regret nothing I usually wear a 10 in dress shoes, boots, you name it. Thankfully I tried on a friends size 10 boots and decided they were a bit short in the toe for me. That being said, I always wear more than one pair of socks in winter boots so I like them roomier for that purpose. The quality is excellent, they are super cute, and I regret nothing! May 4, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by bought same boot twice! I searched & searched for this boot in my size, (finally backordered) & totally ok with these for next winter, I just wanted them! However, as I was viewing them online my 22yr old son made me aware he planned to get boots for his girlfriend for the holidays! (he being colored blind) stated: "I could help him, & what about those you are viewing now"? ~ I pointed to his Carhart work vest for color of these boots, he said "perfect"! & that's how I BOUGHT 2 AWESOME, 'SHALE' COLORED, JOAN OF ARTIC boots!!!! April 23, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Nice LOOK Warm FEEL When the boots finely became available in my size I no longer needed them. I still decided to place the order for we are still going to have another winter. I was not sure on how to get the right size so I drew my foot on a piece of paper than used a ruler with inches & Centimeters (CM) on it. My foot measured 25.5 (CM) which equals an 8.5 In US. I normally wear an 8 to 8.5 and this is a great fit for me. April 21, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by My wife is giddy with excitement My life loves her new boots and they look great on her. April 17, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best snow boot I've owned Kept my feet warm and dry throughout the day. Very comfortable! I would recommend these boots to anyone, a great investment! April 1, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Slightly big Totally in love with these boots but just a warning these boots run slightly big. I wish I would have ordered them a half size smaller. :-( March 24, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Warm and comfortable Bought the size I normally wear in shoes and boots and they fit great. My niece raved about them so I had to try -and I love them as much as she said I would! Very warm and comfortable, look like serious winter boots! March 19, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Ouch! I read a lot of reviews before I purchased these boots and everyone had said to go a half a size up. I did that, and my feet still have blisters on them from wearing them TWICE this winter. I had to wear three pairs of socks, and buy leg warmers to stop the rubbing. The boots are perfect for snow/water. My other complaint I have not read on any other review is they are impossible to get off your feet. Which makes it bad when you go outside and forget something inside. I would probably reccomend these boots if they didnt rip my feet the only two times wearing them March 17, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love these boots! I bought these boots and wore them for the first time in NY. The weather has been sporadic this year so I didn't want to take any chances with my feet being cold. The lowest temps we got were in the 10s-20s and I did wear them upstate in snow. I got them half a size bigger to fit thicker socks, but at least for this trip, that turned out to be unnecessary. I think I could've almost gone without socks and still been warm. My feet were actually hot a few times and the shoes were very comfortable even though I was breaking them in from new. I highly recommend them! March 5, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by AMAHZING I live in Manhattan, which means I walk everywhere, battling snow, rain and wind on a regular basis in the winter. And your shoes are like your tires. If you don't invest in good tires, your car is going to eventually break down. Since these boots have come into my life, it hasn't been the same. I now love walking in the snow, wiggling my feet in warmth and frequently fend off shoe-enviers in droves. So do something nice to your feet for once. Don't make them suffer in the cold. March 2, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Have snow? Get Sorel! Impulse buy. We went on an impromptu weekend Christmas vacation to Cloudcroft, NM last year. My insulated wellies were not the right boots to wear in 14+ inches of snow. My hubby and I ran into a ski shop, both purchased a pair and glad we did. I researched them quickly and I normally wear a 5.5 or 6 and based on reviews most said size up as well as the shop owner. I bought a 7. While they work great with thick boot socks, I can't wear them with regular thinner socks since my foot will slip up. I will say, sizing up also helped them not to rub the backs of my feet. I love them and have the dark brown pair. My only issue is they are slightly bulky for us narrow footed gals but this helps when traipsing through the mountains of New Mexico in knee high snow walls. The wider step helps push down the snow and gives a firm non-slip grip! Love them overall and they're very stylish. The extra room in the front end helps keep a warm air pocket so my toes aren't freezing. Wear with one pair of thick socks. Adding too many pairs traps the cold (lesson learned). I'll buy again once these are worn out. February 27, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Boots with the fur.... I currently own my second pair of Joan of Arctics. My first pair I sent back for warranty work because 3 of 4 snaps broke the first winter. This pair was lost in the mail. I bought a second pair, and after 1 1/2 months, I already have one broken snap that flops around when I walk. Love the boots, but poor design with the snapped straps that hold the boot liner in. New boots that are already broken.... February 16, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fit Just Right I read many reviews stating that the fit is too small or too tight. I wear a size 8 and have wide feet. I ordered a size a 8 and they fit just right. They are keeping my feet very warm in Chicago. February 14, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good looking, practical but small I was a little wary of how I would like the bright laces but they are actually really fun. I like the praticality (non-slip sole) but the fit was tight. Normally I'm 11.5, I ordered up to a 12 and even w thin socks my toe rubs at the front and I've gotten a bad blister at the back. Trying to decide if I can withstand breaking them in or need to return. Wouldn't want to as I like how they look but painful! February 12, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Very warm Very warm and fits a little big but if you have a wide foot these are your boot. The only negative is the back of the boot rubs on your heel and has to Be broken in for it to be comfortable. February 11, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by NOT WARM! I bought these thinking that they would keep my feet warm in the winters here in Boston and snow. Even with my wool socks, my feet feel frozen! I hate to say it but my UGGs are SO Much warmer! They are also really wide and bulky. Invest in a warmer boot! I'm still searching for something else that will do the trick. February 9, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great purchase!! I got these to keep warm in the brutal winters that Minnesota gives us. We have our days where we are 20-30 below with the wind gusts we get so for me it was all about how insulated the shoes were. I got the black/sail red ones and they are the best winter boots I have!! They are cute too!! So if you consider whether to by them or not the answer is you totally should own one pair of these!! I wear mine every weekend up here. February 8, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Where have these been all my life? I typically wear a size 8, but following the Sorel size chart I am a 7. I ordered a 7 & they are perfect. Don't hesitate. BUY THEM! February 7, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Joan of arc book Prompt delivery, thumbs up for recycling package. Well constructed sharp looking boot. February 6, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love These! Not only do these boots keep your feet warm and dry, they are fashionable! They keep my feet toasty warm, even in heavy snow. February 5, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love My Boots!!! Awesome boot!! Besides being adorable, they are very warm and comfortable. They are true to size but more roomy in the upper foot area than my TOFINO HERRINGBONE boots. I wore my Smart Wool socks with them which made my feet feel nice and snuge. You won't be disappointed with this boot. My only recommendation is to wear a nice boot sock with this boot. February 5, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Uncomfortable Big Foot These boots are hard to put on and take off. I have 2 pair of Sorel boots and they both have the same issue. This pair are uncomfortable and really heavy. They are also difficult to walk in and dig into the back of your lower leg. They will keep your feet warm though! February 4, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Sorel Joan of Arctic Bought these for my daughter for her birthday. She absolutely loves them!! They're very warm AND stylish! A little stiff, but I'm sure they just need to be broken in. February 4, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Not too happy I have these in a size 7 which is the size I take in shoes and boots. However, I have had issues with the sizing. It is hard to explain, but for starters the actual shoe part of the boot where my foot sits is too big length and width wise. There is too much room and they don't fit my feet snug enough to my liking. When I looked down at my feet, I felt like I had huge "Shrek" looking feet and when I walked I felt clunky and my feet were actually banging against each other. The weird part is, the foot part was big, but I continuously had struggled so much to get the shoes on and off. No matter what I would do to get the boots on, it would take me about 5 minutes to get both on. I would unlace them all the way down to get them on and off, but would still have such issues. Maybe incorporating a zipper on the back would help make the on and off process a little easier with these? I thought to myself, maybe it's just me. I have never felt like there should be directions with how to put on shoes, but with these boots, I feel like there has to be instructions or something. Every time it's time to get the boots off, it's a two person job and I have to ask the nearest friend or family member to pull from the bottom. Today, I attempted getting them off solo and the whole inside layer/lining of the boot came out along with my foot and now I am struggling to shove the lining back in. I don't know why I have been struggling this much with these boots. Overall, I am not satisfied with my purchase and the way these boots fit. I was initially really looking forward to my first pair of Sorel's. One good thing is once they are on, they do keep your feet very warm, so that is definitely a plus, but not worth it after trying to get them on and off. February 2, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Winter Boots! I live in Chicago, IL where there is always an abundance of snow/salt during the winter season. I came across these winter boots and was a bit skeptical at first on ordering them online due to reading all the up and down reviews about the sizing. I usually wear a size 6 and rarely a 6.5. I went with my guy feeling and went with the size 6 and I am very glad that I did. When it comes to sizing, it's hard to give a review on that just because everyone's feet are different. My feet run small so I fit into any size 6 very easily. If you have wide/bigger feet, I definitely would recommend going a half size to maybe even a full size up. I wear thick socks with these boots and I still have some room in the front. Even with reg. socks, it's still comfortable and my feet still stay dry. Also, these boots have a very easy cleanup especially when it comes down to the salt buildup that has ruined a bunch of my other winter boots in the past. The suede on these are also waterproof which I love because Chicago winters are very unforgiving on suede. Overall, I love these boots and I would definitely recommend them to people. February 2, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Comfy but SO big These boots were extremely wide. I wear a size 7.5-8 normally, and decided to get a size 8 to allow for warm socks. They fit almost the exact right length, but they were way too wide! Plus, the wideness of the boot (combined with the height of the shaft and the fur at the top) made me look totally ridiculous. I'm sending back for a refund, which is unfortunate because they were comfortable when I slipped them on. February 2, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Cute boot I really like the style, color and fit. My only issue is I need warmth and waterproof as my feet are always cold. The tag said warm in negative temperatures. I live in upstate NYS and need that feature. We were standing in 0 degree weather and a wind chill of -9 for 2 1/2 hours and my feet were numb and bright red from the cold. I had these boots on and thick winter socks. I was freezing and bummed. Not sure if it has to do with the rubber part conducting the cold as the rest of my foot ankle and leg were fine February 2, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best boot for Northeast! I couldn't be happier with this purchase. These boots are so comfortable and keep my feet toasty warm. After getting tired of cold toes in my Uggs, I decided to try these. No regrets. AND they're cute too. February 1, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great boot! I have the black/snail red. Sharp looking boot! I was torn about sizing from all the reviews. My measurements were for size 7 1/2 but I normally wear an 8, sometimes 8 1/2. Stayed with 8 and glad I did. Fits good with regular socks and can still wear thick wool socks, just fits more snuggly. Super comfortable! Only wore once so far, but did a lot of walking. No blister for me. Haven't tested warmth yet, but only a matter of time here! January 31, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Want to love, but seriously, they hurt so much I have had the Joan of Arctic boots for years, YEARS, and have a job that I walk around all day. I am SO disappointed. The Joan of Arctic boots are so adorable and I love looking at them, and thats about it. The construction of the boot is of very high quality and they are VERY warm, however they have a fatal flaw that many other customers have noted - they are HORRIBLY uncomfortable and make the back of my heel bleed every single time I wear them. I have given these boots plenty of time to wear in, (4 years!) and I have never been able to break them in so they don't kill my feet. Sorel NEEDS TO FIX THIS as it seems no one tested these boots before putting them on the market. They are SO CUTE and SO PAINFUL. Please change the leather that goes down the back of the calf. so that I can wear these cute boots and not want to walk around barefoot in NYC winters. January 30, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Taffy Joan of Arctic Love, love, love these! Not only are they incredibly warm and comfortable, they are also super cute! January 30, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Skeptical at first but thrilled in the end When I first tried on the boots, they were stiff and digging into the back of my leg. I almost returned them but then read a review that the boots had to be worn in first. I am so glad that I held on. These boots are so warm and comfortable. I get compliments on them every time I wear them. You do have to wear the right socks with them, and be prepared to have the first 2-3 wears feel a little stiff. After that, they are perfect. Also important to remember that they won't fit like a fashion boot. It's a heavy duty snow boot and they are constructed to withstand the elements. January 30, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Warm, Comfy Boot! Normally I wear a size 8, but I returned the 8's and ordered a 7.5, which fits just right. I love that there's plenty of room for my toes and for heavy socks. These boots are very warm and comfy. Even though I live in Atlanta, GA, it occasionally gets very cold, icy and snowy. I mainly bought them for a trip to Montreal in the dead of winter, and wanted to have something with great traction and warmth in icy, snowy weather. I love these boots, and they're so cute with leg warmers and jeans. January 29, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Heavy duty, warm, quality boots I really love these boots. I got a pair this Christmas from my mother, and they're easily my new favorite winter boots. Living in Minnesota, I really needed a pair of heavy duty, warm, winter boots; these fit the bill perfectly. They are very warm - I've worn them in -20F below and my toes stay nice and toasty. I also like that they're waterproof (at least the rubber sole bottom portion), so I don't have to worry about my feet getting wet when stepping in puddles or sloshy snow. I sprayed my boots with waterproofing spray to keep the upper portion & fur of the boot clean. They're comfortable enough to wear for extended periods of time, and they're also cute enough that I often tend to wear these when I go out with friends, too! I get compliments on them all the time/people ask where I bought them. I would say these boots run slightly large. I'm 5'2", 135lbs so my feet and calves are slightly wide. I wear 7's pretty much across the board, and I think I could have gotten away with a 6.5 if I really needed to. Even when I'm wearing thick wool socks, I still have plenty of width/toe/calf room. I did end up sticking with the 7's, though. The boots are definitely made out of high quality material; I have not found any defects with my boots. For the price, you really can't beat the quality. CONS: Because these are heavy duty boots, they are heavy (weight speaking). Your legs get a bit of a work out when wearing these, but you get used to it. Also, when you first start wearing these boots, they tend to be a little uncomfortable because of how stiff they are - particularly in the back of the ankle; the boot will rub against the back of your ankle which is kind of annoying. It doesn't do this as much once you've worn the boots enough to break them in, but make sure you wear thick/tall socks with these boots, especially when you first start wearing them. I recommend wearing them around the house while doing house work to speed up the process of breaking them in. I've been wearing my pair for a couple weeks now and they don't hurt anymore. The only other complaint I have about this particular boot is the fact I had to go to four different stores to find a pair! I know that with the 2013-14 winter, Sorel had to use some of their 2014-15 supply, so things got backed up a bit. I'm hoping that this boot becomes more readily available, because I would DEFINITELY buy another color if they became available. All in all, I highly recommend these boots. Hope this is helpful for anyone on the fence! Definitely a great purchase. January 29, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by A bit clunky I wanted to love these boots - they look fabulous but they are way too clunky and heavy for me. I had the feeling I had ski boots on and simply couldn't imagine having these on for a few hours. The Tivoli High II boot is a much better boot comfort wise but unfortunatley they are out of stock. I normally take a 7.5 but went up a half size up to the 8 in these. In the Tivoli High II a whole size up is recommended. January 28, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by beautiful snow boot As mentioned before I too destroyed my ankles after wearing these boots for a week but was my own fault...do ot wear these boots with ankle socks. I WAS FINE UNTIL I DID THAT!! Aside form that these boots are chic and look great with jeans and leggings. I live nyc and between the snow and cold weather these boots held up...i was out in snow for over 3 hours..feet were warm n dry. Would highly recommend to anyone, i bought the taffy color and love them. They are true to size in my opi ion. January 28, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Way too BIG These boots are so cute! BUT they fit enormous! I wear a 10 in boots and I ordered a 10 and should have ordered a 8. I would only buy these if they were in the store and I could try on. Not online. I would reccomend if you could try them on first. Not to buy online. January 28, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Warm, dry, little big I am very happy with the look and warmth of these boots. They do run ever so slightly on the large side, but if you plan on wearing thick socks with them they are true to size. So far my only complaint is that the back of my right boot sometimes rubs the back of my achilles tendon. So far no blisters, but if I were to walk around for a long time in them there's definely potential. But I've been getting a lot of compliments on them and my feet have been dry and warm! Great for preventing slipping on ice and snow. January 28, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Love the look of these boots! I originally wanted a different pair of Sorel boots but they were on back order so I bought these instead. I love the look and they are very warm. They aren't comfy for long periods of time but they're are perfect for walking around in light snow. January 27, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by High quality boot but awkwardly large I have another pair of Sorel boots (the Tivoli) and love them. So snug, perfect size, great quality. Bought these in the same size, they seemed to fit my foot (toes in the right place) and although the rest of the boot seemed just too big all around I thought maybe it was just a style difference and that I would get used to it. However, not so... I have to wear multiple pairs of socks and even then the laces are as tight as possible and the boot is not snug. I have a friend with the exact same boots and they fit her perfectly in her normal size so not sure if this is something unique to the 9.5. I really like the overall look of the boot and am sad that they are so cumbersome to wear! January 27, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Trendy I absolutely love these boots. They not only keep your feet warm and dry but are great looking. January 27, 2015
