Rated 3 out of 5 by order a full zise down these boots are heavy and quite chunky but for a chicago winter they are perfect. be sure to order a whole size down. I ordered a half size down (7 to 6.5) and the boots are slightly too big still. November 18, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome boot! Although we haven't had a big snow fall yet this year, I am excited to wear these boots hunting, ice fishing and out in the snow with my pups. I have several friends and family that love these boots so I look forward to using them as well. I tried them on as soon as I received them and they are extremely comfortable and fit true to size. I ordered them 1/2 a size smaller than my normal size as suggested and they fit perfectly. November 4, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Overall good leather-free winter boot I just moved to the east coast from the west coast and didn't have a pair of winter boots, so I decided to order these in black (my first Sorel purchase) to prepare for a long winter ahead. I chose this style because I don't wear leather/seude, and this was one of the only styles I could find without those materials. I am normally between a 6.5 and 7, so I ordered a 6.5 since the reviews said the boot runs large -- I found this to be the way to go, as the 6.5 still allows me plenty of room for thick socks. The cons: they're a bit clunky and the shaft of the boot is rather stiff, so moving your ankles to walk takes some effort (hopefully they get broken in after some use). Pros: Tho I have yet to wear them in the snow, I think they will do the trick of keeping me warm, and while they aren't the sexiest boots, they are relatively attractive for what they are. All in all, I'm satisfied, though I do wish Sorel would make some of the more feminine styles of boot in animal-free materials. October 13, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Sorel boots This product is very warm and very comfortable. The fit is amazing and the material is durable. September 11, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fits just right I read some of the reviews about ordering a size up, I would not recommend that. I wear a 9 and ordered a 9 and it fits perfect. I could have even have gotten away with ordering an 8.5 and it still would have fit well I think. September 2, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by My feet are freezing I have been hearing about Sorel boots for 2 years now. I was finally able to save up enough to purchase my first pair this year in January! I originally had my eyes on the Caribou style in the shale and stone color, but upon ordering the site did not have my size, so instead I chose the Carnival style, which were very similar in the same colors. I wear a size 8.5 running/walking shoe and I chose a size 8.5 even after reading reviews on the boots running large. I work outside as a carhop and I figured I would be wearing thick wool socks anyway. The size fits perfect. The boots are big and clunky, but they are very durable and safe on ice and snow. My problem is that my feet are EXTREMELY cold in these boots! I have read reviews that rave about Sorel boots being so warm and cozy. I'm extremely disappointed in this discovery as I work outside for up to 8 hours a day in the snow in Michigan. As for the comments on the ankles being rubbed sore, I can only agree wholeheartedly on that as well. Although, with thick wool socks the friction is considerably less. I LOVE the style and colors. I've never been more complimented on a pair of boots I have purchased. I wish I could refer my friends and family, but I have been let down in the warmth aspect. February 23, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Clunky & Too Large Unfortunately, I should have listened to the other reviewers - this boot runs very large. I have to return them. The quality of the shoe is very good, just is too big. February 17, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by beautiful boot but way too big with limited sizes I was excited to see a size 8 which I wear in regular shoes. Disappointed when i received them and they were extremely too big. Not even a pair of thick socks could change that. I'm hAving a Hard time finding a boot available to replace these. They are very cute and look like great quality. February 13, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Read the reviews I'm glad I read the reviews about sizing. These do run slightly large and I ordered a 1/2 size down. They fit perfect on my feet. They came just in time for the large snowfall that hit Chicago this year. My only issue is that EVERY time I take the boots off the bootie comes off, too. But it hasn't stopped me from wearing them everyday. February 11, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Winter carnival boot Love these boots I am an 8.5 and I purchased the 8 and they for great. Perfect in snow and the liner is removable which is great also! Love the color as well! January 29, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome boots, worth the money Excellent quality! I normally wear an 8 1/2 so I got an 8 but they are still slightly big but I just wore thick socks and that was perfect! Got TONS of compliments! Love love love these January 22, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Survived Chiberia Love these boots! This is my first winter in Chicago and I wore these at night when the windchill was -30 below, walking through snow downtown. My feet were perfectly cozy and warm. I did layer my feet with fleece tights and merino wool socks as well and had no problems with fit. Thank you! January 21, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by All the bad things... These shoes are SO uncomfortable. They are not warm, and they let in water. I was so excited because I heard such great things about sorels, but these shoes were a complete disappointment. I got blisters from wearing them and there is no bend in to sole (imagine walking without bending your ankles at all). I cant decide if these shoes would be better for spring, or winter. Either way your feet wont be happy. In spring weather, you'll end up with soaking wet feet. The seal or something on these isnt working or the soles are easy to get cracks (I mean in the first time even wearing them). In winter weather, you better hope you can fit in about 10 layers of socks because these boots are NOT warm! In two years, I wore these maybe ten times. They still look brand new but now I'm stuck with them and there's no chance or a refund or any warranty. January 18, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Clunky As many others have said, these things are huge and clunky. I expect snow boots to be bigger and bulkier than the average boot, but these look like I am wearing my boyfriends shoes. I returned them, so I cannot say anything about the actual wear, because they were so big I couldn't even wear! January 15, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by First pair of snow boots I have never purchased snow boots before. After spending last winter with frozen toes I started doing research about different brands of weather boots. Everything I read led me back to Sorels. Things to keep in mind - these boots are functional snow boots that are also pretty cute. Because they put function over fashion, you must keep in mind they are as others reviewers say, clunky-looking. Also, ordering a half size down is a good recommendation. I usually wear a 7.5. After reading other reviews I decided to order a 7 and it fits perfectly. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I have not experienced any kind of ankle pain while wearing these boots. I really LOVED the look of the Tofino Cate boots and purchased a pair to compare to the Carnival. The Tofino's were definitely more of a fashion boot for me and did not seem to be of as high quality as the Carnivals. I tried the Elk/Delila color but ended up going with the color combo that was available exclusively through JCrew. There has been very little snow in Kansas so far this winter, but plenty of cold weather - my toes haven't been cold yet! January 15, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Most uncomfortable shoe ever These shoes tore apart my Achilles after walking only 2 blocks. The back of the boot folded and rubbed painfully hard until my Achilles was raw. I couldn't bring myself to attempt to wear these long enough to potentially break them in. January 10, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Too Big, Hurt My Feet These boots are HUGE! I've never ever not worn a size 10. My feet are moving all over the place, and they just LOOK huge like I have giant bear paws. That said, they hurt to walk in. As others mentioned, they dig into the back of my heels and my inner ankles. My feet slide around so I have to tense them to walk. They just hurt. I would take them back for a smaller size, but there are like the last pair of Sorels in NYC. I wish I had read these reviews first. January 9, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great on snow Will work great for walking on snow, but will be slightly clunky on dry ground. They were a bit stubborn to put on, the Achilles heel part of the boot folded in when I jammed my foot in, but once on, they were very comfortable. My normal size 8 worked for me. There was ample room for bulky socks or socks plus liners. I got a dark grey color, goes well with jeans and just about everything. January 7, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by First Pair This is my first pair of Sorel boots. It hasn't snowed yet, where I live, but I have been wearing them around the house all day. I rely very heavily on reviews when making purchases. So far, I am finding no discomfort in the heel/ankle of the boot, like some have reviewed. Also, I did get a whole size smaller than what I normally wear, which wasn't a big deal for me since I bought them at a sporting goods store, so I was able to try multiple sizes on. So far, they are very warm and comfortable. They are a bit clunky, but they are a winter boot, should be expected. I can't wait to see how the hold up in the snow! Very happy so far and hope to get more styles in the future! January 2, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Cute, but don't keep feet warm at all Wore them to a outdoor winter concert. Toes were FREEZING from the moment I got outside. Wore 3 pairs of wool socks and still cold toes. I think it is because of the rubber at the end of the shoe that gets cold, however, overall it is a good looking shoe. But don't let it fool you, it is NOT warm!! January 1, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by great boot! This boot is great! Very warm. I am from Bc Canada, I couldn't write a review on the Canada website though. A lot of people complain about the pinching, I found if you wear real wool or thick warm socks, not little thin socks, it fixes the problem after a coulple days. And with the thick socks you don't feel the pinching either. Buy half a size smaller if you can. But also make sure they are not too small or your feet will get cold! They are a great boot, very comfortable. December 23, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by dont buy these shoes are very clunky. also, they hurt in the heel as others have mentioned; my heel was in pain after only 10 minutes of walking. these do not fit correctly. December 14, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Who knows what to expect Well yet another disappointing experience with Sorel boots. In hope of replacing a first pair that did not fit correctly (too small) I ordered these. The boot runs large , and is of average construction quality. December 11, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Do Not Buy I first bought these in a size 10 since 9.5 were sold out. They were way too big so I returned them and got them in a 9.5. It turns out the size of the boot was not really the issue... the issue was the general fit of the boot. The bottom is made very sturdy, and then the part of the boot above the base (going up your calf) is very thin. Therefore the rubber base of the boot cuts into your heel when you walk. They are also very bulky and awkward to walk in. I must say they were very warm, but in my opinion not worth the money if they are not comfortable. I really wanted them to work out since they looked so cute online, but the fit is just too uncomfortable. December 6, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Carnival Boot I live in Minnesota and this is the PERFECT boot for our weather here. It's comfortable and looks great. No trouble with the size and everyone comments on the color! I got the green (moss) ones. The pink accent is an added bonus, plus they are Sorel, so my Dad and uncles commented on them being great boots! I recommend them-absolutely. December 6, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Boot i bought this boot for walking around my college campus this winter. I got the gray ones. They're the exact color as shown and fit perfectly. The only thing I'd change is I wish they would lace up higher. Other than that they are awesome December 5, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good boots After reading lots of reviews, I ordered a half size down in this boot. This ended up being perfect. I really like how the boots looks, and they keep my feet quite warm in the snow. However, in the back of the heel where the nylon meets the rubber there is some sort of seam that rubs. The first time I wore these my ankles were rubbed a little raw. I anticipate that they will break in and end up being okay, but the construction seems to me to be a little questionable. December 5, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Fooled by other Reviews This was my first Sorel purchase. There were not a lot of positive reviews on the Carnival boot which I loved, so I read reviews on other boots which was a mistake...they do not fit the same. The Carnival boot is the "classic" Sorel boot and is not for someone who is very trendy. It does have a very round rubber toe on it and when the boot is tightened it looks a bit clownish. Now, the size 8.5 was either 1/2 size or a full size too big for me (need to send back). I normally wear sz 7.5 in heels, 7.5/8 in flats, and 8.5 in running shoes and boots. I would say these boots run LARGE probably a full size bigger than most boots comparing them to Sorel's biggest name brand competitor (which I wear 8.5). As for quality, the sherpa lining is NOT attached to the boot at all, which I found a little irritating. I did not have trouble getting my foot in or out, nor did I experience any difficulty walking in them, ankle pain/difficulty/feeling like I was in a ski boot. I think that maybe some of those reviewers might not live in a cold climate or be used to walking in REAL winter boots. These are REAL winter boots...they are "clunky." Read the weight and compare to your shoe weight or what you are used to in a boot. They are not slipper weight. They are meant to hold up. I thought maybe the inside coming out could be a good thing because you could technically wear them as a rain boot too in the spring if you were crafty; however they don't come up very high. The snow here in WI would go up over the height of the boot easily just taking the dogs outside. That was a downfall. I also ordered the Cait Torfino (?) which is taller and I am debating between the two. This boot seems more sturdy and MUCH LESS CHEAP LOOKING, but I like the height on the other one. I do not believe it is poor quality at all like some reviewers have said. I think it is just a matter of the height of the boot with snow. And be sure you realize you are ordering a real snow boot if you live in a warmer climate and looking for a trendy boot. It will clunk around! December 5, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good in snow Decided my second winter in New Hampshire that I needed better snow boots. I bought these and have found that the Carnival is great keeping my feet warm and dry, although it fits a bit big and is a little awkward to walk in. I think it will get better as I wear and adjust to them more. Great quality. December 4, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Bulky boots I am a true 10 and ordered a size 10, but was disappointed when they arrived. They were large, even with socks on. They are very bulky and feel like big snow boots, which isn't what I desired. However, they seemed warm, so if you need very sturdy, durable boots, these are a good choice, just be sure to order a half-size down! December 4, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Love the Sorel brand, but... I love the Sorel brand. All of the Sorel boots are made well, comfortable, warm, dry, and an overall excellent boot. Some are also stylish. This boot just didn't do it for me. The Sherpa pile snow cuff looked cheap in person and the waterproof nylon upper was drab looking. I sent these back and will order a different style, perhaps one with leather or suede on the upper outside. I prefer a boot that is functional and also stylish. I would still recommend this product if you like the look and feel because all Sorel boots, in my experience, function very well (keep out the elements and are comfortable to walk in). I would buy these for my mom or grandmother, but just don't love them for me. December 3, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Boots will serve the purpose I went with Sorel because I know they make their boots to last. However they fit large and the uppers are very stiff and make noise when you walk. The shape of the rubber part is too wide and rounded, so they are not very flattering, probably why they fit so big. I ordered 1/2 size down. December 3, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great! Over the last few winters my friends in Minnesota and Montana would tell me how much they loved their Sorels whenever I would complain about frozen feet. It's only the beginning of December, and we've already had several days with windchills below 0 in Minnesota. I bike commute, even in winter months, so I need something warm, and these are amazing. These boots, combined with a light pair of wool socks, have so far kept my feet so warm, even on the coldest days we've had so far. December 2, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Chunky I wanted to love these b/c they are so cute and the perfect height for me but these boots are not very comfortable. The back of the ankle dents in and hurts my ankle. I also felt like they were tipping me slightly forward, like a ski boot. November 20, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Light Version of Classic Well I am smitten. These are basically the classic Sorel boot but with nylon instead of leather, hence about a half pound lighter. The nylon is matte and looks like canvas until you touch it. I feel like they run just under a half size large (length dept) and they are roomy in the heel area. The back of the boot has a strip of leather over the nylon. I got the elk/red dahlia color and the red (particularly the laces) is deeper than pictured. Like a pigeon's blood red. October 9, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Boots I read the only review to be posted about the boots I was about to purchase. Winter Carnival. I took the advice of the customer and purchased a half size smaller than my actual shoe size. My boots came today and I am thrilled. They are a perfect fit. I ordered 4.5 rather than 5 UK size. I now can't wait for the snow to arrive. October 14, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by NOT TRUE TO SIZE Absolutely perfect boots for my skiing holiday BUT, the are not true to size. I ordered a size 4, and they felt like clown boots, i then ordered a size 3, too small. Decided to order a 3.5......OUT OF STOCK!!!!!! February 17, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome Boots I got these boots in a size larger than my usual size as I was always taught to do with winter boots for Christmas. I have to say I was a little weary about these boots after reading so many negative reviews on them, where people were complaining about rubbing and blisters. I have worn my boots everyday since Christmas and they are the best boots I have ever owned. They keep my feet dry and warm, and I have not experienced any discomfort with them at all. The only thing I have noticed is that between the liner and the boot itself they do get a little damp from the warmth of your foot and the cold on the outside of the boot. I just check them when I have worn them for a long period of time and just pull the liner out a bit so they can dry. They are never wet on the inside though. All in all Awesome boots. January 30, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Stylish and Comfy I bought these boots before I read all the reviews. Because there were so many negative comments, I decided to wear mine inside our home for awhile, so I could return them if necessary. These boots are perfect for me...really cute too (I got the purple and green). Great value and I have worn them outside and for long walks with comfort and warmth. Clearly, they are not right for very foot, so I recommend wearing them inside your home for a bit to make sure they work for you. January 21, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Terrible This boot is uncomfortable ....just the liner on top of hard plastic. My feet get cold in just minutes...a 20 minute wait for the bus and my feet were frozen ...might as well wear runners. Boots are damp inside and I have no idea why when my feet are too cold to sweat January 7, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Ouchies, ouch, ouch, ouch I arrived in Canada in the middle of winter, so there was a scarcity of boots in store. I wish I had held out and waited for some Caribous instead of panicking and buying these (yes, I needed boots, no I didn't need shredded ankles). The waterproofness is impressive, as I had to wade through several puddles that passed the level of the rubber but my feet remained dry, if shredded. When I first tried them on I could feel the hard ridge of rubber but my flatmate convinced me that winter boots were supposed to feel like that. I really wish I had read these reviews first. Sorel should rethink the design of these boots, and send a pair of Caribous to everyone who shared reviews on this site. We're doing you a favour by sacrificing our tender ankle skin for your product development! January 7, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Worst Purchase Ever... I bought these boots last year without reading the reviews and I regret that. They cut into the back of my feet so bad that they make me bleed. I'm so extremely dissapointed in this product. I will be looking towards other brands for winter boots going forward. December 17, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Disappointed I bought these boots for my daughter last year and when she put them on for the first time this year, she complained that not only did her feet hurt again, they were cold and damp. Sure enough, when I felt the liner, it was almost threadbare in a year. So disappointed in this product as I purchased them thinking this was a good quality product which would keep my daughter's feet war and dry. Not only were they painful the first year - which I thought was her being fussy - they now leak and are painful. Disappointed in my first and last Sorel purchase. December 1, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Same problem with the heel I have had sorels before (the caribou) so I was really looking forward to my new pair. Howerver, there is a defect in the design of these ones. The rubber heel, combined with the softer fabric of the upper part, creates a very hard edge that can be felt through the inner lining. I wore them for about 10 mintues before they wore away the skin on the backs of both my ankles. I was almost crying in pain just trying to get the remaining 4 blocks home. I took them back to the store and they would not return them because I had already thrown out the box and worn them. But now that I see these other reviews I believe this style of sorels has a defective design and Sorel should definitely be taking these back if a customer wants to return them. Because the store where I bought them was of no help I will be contacting Sorel directly about an exchange. February 13, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by PAINFUL heel! I bought this pair because I have heard RAVE reviews about Sorel footwear and this particular style came in my size (5). I wish I did more research, though. There is very hard plastic exactly where the soft part of my heel is and it rubbed so much skin off so fast that it took a week to heal. (I was on my way to work, had no choice but to keep wearing them. I was almost crying by the end of it!) I can't wear thick socks for extra padding, either, as there isn't enough room. Nor should I have to. I am incredibly disappointed in these boots. I even wore them around the house for 3 days, but there's only so much you can put a pair of boots through in your own house. It takes walking to work in the snow to get a REAL feel, unfortunately. Now I can not return them. Everything else is very comfy and they are very warm, but the incredible pain from my skin being scraped off makes these boots absolutely NOT worth it! BUYER BEWARE. January 16, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by peeling skin Like the other reviewers, I had a huge problem with these in the heels. I tried wearing them with thick socks and thin socks. Both led to a lot of chafing and peeling skin on the heels. I brought these on a trip to -30C weather in the Northwest Territories, and had to abandon them after two days when one of my heels got so chafed it bled. The shaft above the ankle is also somewhat stiff. January 5, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Disappointed! I was also excited to make this purchase they looked comfortable and durable and they are a awesome style of winter boots. To my realization they gave me horrible blisters on the back of my ankle too as to the previous post. Either the designer has to make some adjustments on this fit and it's proportions. Maybe the company should wear them for an hour at least then they will know what the consumers are talking about here on their own page. It is a Canadian company right????? I definitely do not recommend buying these boots or any ones that are of similar construction. I went out for a walk with the nephews yesterday and I was wearing them for a hour and the blisters came right back in the exact same spot they appeared the first time I wore them. I too thought I would test them again you know to see if the blisters would appear. I really had hoped these boots would have been a great buy and I am thankful I didn't buy the more expensive ones because that would have been a bigger loss for me. January 7, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Beautiful but painful I am so disappointed with the fit of these boots, because I was so excited about them in the beginning and love the way they look. I wish I had read more reviews before buying - I went a size up instead of a size down (as was the usual rule-of-thumb when buying boots once upon a time! What happened!), and though they seemed a bit big when I first put them on, I figured I'd rather them be big than have them be snug and risk losing warmth. I should have waited and taken them back to the store to try a smaller size, but I'd received them as a gift, and we were hit with a big snowstorm that day and I was too tempted to go outside in the snow! Within 10 minutes of walking around, I developed excruciating blisters on my heels. What I've discovered after trying different remedies (because I am determined to make these work, at least for a couple seasons) is the trick is to ensure your heel is sufficiently supported. The boots tend to sag a bit around the ankle, which leaves a thick piece of rubber digging into the tendon. What I ended up doing was taking advice from another post - in addition to two pairs of insoles and thick socks, I stuffed a copious amount of cotton balls in between the boot and the lining where the heel is. You need enough so the boot doesn't sag at all, so it might take a lot of cotton balls, depending on how big the boot is. Overall this feels like the silliest thing I've ever had to do to make a pair of shoes work for me. But I also feel pretty silly for wearing them outside before really taking a long-enough test drive indoors. Besides that, they're gorgeous boots. Don't know if I can recommend these - even as snug as I've gotten them to be against my ankle, I can still feel that rubber poking through a bit. I don't understand why a boot would be engineered to have a stiff piece of rubber intruding on the most tender part of the ankle. I'll have to try on another pair that fits my foot better to compare I suppose. Hope my mistakes have helped some of you! December 29, 2011
