Women’s Cate The Great™ Wedge Boot is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 95.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from awesome! I stand most of the day at my occupation, I live in rainy Pacific NW, (we had a lot of ice and snow this winter), most of all, I prefer to look *well dressed* in a standout kind of way. These boots exceeded my expectations for comfort. The are waterproof and they have traction. They look fantastic (compliments and inquiries all the time-from men and women!). Size wise, I vary between 9 and 9.5, I bought the 9.5

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous boots! I've been stalking these boots for two years and finally pulled the trigger a month ago when they went on sale. They are comfortable and stylish at the same time -- a true find. Even though they are ranked as "light rain," I used them as snow boots on a recent ski trip and they performed well.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Slouchy but still ok I like this boot it's def. cute but what I don't like about it is how the sides of the boot slouch and it opens on the sides. If you pull the laces really tight it almost makes that issue worsen. I'd give this boot another star just for the sorel tread but instead I would like reviewers to know that the boot could have been made a little better in this area. I also have the sorel zip-up holiday boot also which stays around the leg just fine because there are no ties. Even though the sides of the boot slouch and don't stay in nice and together I would still recommend; I love my sorels for their tread on the bottom, and I feel like this is a buying point for me when it comes to sorels over other boots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought a second pair I love these boots so much and wear them so often, I bought a second pair in another color. Fashion meets function: they are waterproof, warm, and stylish; great for Anchorage winters. I can wear them all day and into the night and my feet feel great. Can be dressed up or down. Best boots I have ever owned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stylish and warm boot My most complimented boot. I love the height and warmth the boots provide my ever-constant freezing feet. They are worth the price. Choose the size you would for other boots or exersice shoes (not flats). For example I wear a 6/6.5 in flats or dress shoes but prefer 7s in running /hiking boots. A 7 was perfect in these boots. I can wear any thickness of socks with absolute comfort. I have extremely thin ankles yet fairly muscular calves and the lace system fit my legs perfectly (as I'm sure they would in many other leg shapes as well.) These are a great option for a tall, stylish, and warm boot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cate the Great The Cate the Great wedge boot is one of Sorel's most distinguished boots. I've owned these boots for a couple years now, and they seem to get better with time. I am always complimented on them every time I wear them, and they are truly comfortable. These wedges have seen all that Portland's weather has to offer: snow, ice, rain, etc.. all the while my feet stayed warm and comfy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great boots! These boots are a great purchase! They are stylish, functional, and comfortable. I wore them in icy/snowy conditions and they held up great. The traction is good and they fit true to size. They are well worth it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I really wanted these to be awesome! I love this boot. The style is eye catching and they are so comfortable. I was totally dismayed when these broke only after having them for two weeks! It was the sixth time I wore them and the lace loop broke. The lace on lace design for the loop lent to quick wear and tear with each step until the rope loop snapped. Hopefully they will continue these books but with a metal rivet lace loop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wore for days immediately, so comfy! I bought these boots because I wanted weather resistant boots for a trip to NY that were cute, warm, and comfortable. These didn't disappoint. From Monday early morning to Thursday night, these boots walked all over NYC. No blisters, no ancho feet, no problems. Loved these boots and am now a Sorel fan for life.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from cool boots and comfy love this boot and comfortable even though it has a heel to give me a bit of confident. the only downside of this boot is I have to keep the shoelace on. and the ankle front of the boot expand it makes my foot look wide.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE!! I have been eyeing these boots for 6 months now. Finally pulled the trigger and SO glad I did. The upper boot is so soft but has structure so it won't sag. The boot looks heavy but is actually very light. These do RUN BIG. I wear a 9.5, but after reading reviews, I ordered a 9. So glad I did. They fit perfectly and still have room for a thick sock. I would buy these boots again in another color without batting an eye!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect!! OMG, these boots are EVERYTHING!! I usually can't fit tall boots because of my large calves, but these boots are perfect. I purchased a size 8 to wear thick socks. They are amazingly comfortable, which means so much to me because the balls of my feet hurt in almost all shoes. I've gotten so many compliments from both men and women. I think I'm going to buy all three colors. Love them!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great boot I absolutely love this boot!!! I am short and thought it would be too tall, but the height is perfect. Looks great with leggings or skinnies! Love the color too!!! I got the grayish ones. Fits great and the quality is amazing. This is my 4th pair of Sorels and I absolutely love them!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tested and totally came through. Love these babies! First, the style- so unique, so edgy, so perfect. I got the pebble with the blue laces and they pretty much match everything. They already have a bit of a broken-in look due to the seriously excellent quality of the leather, (plus, I'm pretty sure they're cuter that way) so I think they're more on the casual side. So very comfortable right away. Don't fear the wedge at all. I actually find it more comfortable! I'm usually a 9.5 but got a 10 to be safe, but find i need my thick socks to secure them. I'd say they're true to size. I bought them right before a trip to Seattle where I wore them through the airports, and every single day up and down the hilly streets and in all manner and intensity of precipitation (every single day including some stretches of steady rain). It recommends use in light rain, but I assure you, these have been soaked and beat up and taken it like champs. No issues with laces or ties. I start going on and bragging about them to total strangers who even glance at them. I simply love them. Just from my trip to Seattle, I got my money's worth out of them!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from love / hate I loved these boots! I wore them almost daily. So comfortable and stylish. All last season I received compliment after compliment. I was actually wishing for cold weather so I could pull them out and wear them. I have both brown and black. They go with everything... However all this ended when I noticed how frayed the cording used as grommets had become. I can't wear my black ones anymore as it is literally hanging by a thread. I looked at these boots for months before purchase as this was a big spend for me. I justified the purchase as I thought price ment quality. I thought I would be able to wear these boots for more than one season. I'm so very disappointed. Still waiting to hear about the possibility of repair and if there was something that could be used in place of the cording that would be durable... I'm afraid to wear them as I don't want them to break while I am out.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Brand New and Broken I literally just got these boots. When I went to lace them up today, the lace snapped. Not just the regular shoe lace that is easy to replace, but the lace that is crafted into the boot, that the regular lace ties into. This is my second pair of Sorel boots and I'm just not seeing the quality I would expect for the prices that I've paid.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fuctionality and High Style These are by far the best boots I have ever had in all aspects, fit, comfort, durability and as importantly, style. Not a day goes by that I am not stopped and asked the brand. I am on my feet at work all day yet when I return home, my feet feel fine. . I highly recommend these or any Sorel boots/shoes

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Ever Boots I've had my boots for a year and they are amazing. No problems with the laces, the ties and I wear them a lot! Compliments everytime I wear them. So comfortable and I have foot problems. Highly recommend!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from loved them, but... while the style and comfort of this boot are unique and amazing, I am sad to say that the design is such that the lace tie broke on one of my boots. I was within the one year warranty, and Sorel honored it very quickly, but I am hesitant to purchase them again, since I certainly do not want to go through the same issue a second time and potentially not be within the warranty. too much money for shoes that may or may not last for more than a year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable Boots! These are the most comfortable boots I own. After 8 hours traveling through airports and flights, I still had happy feet! No 'breaking in' period needed. Love the pebble and will probably buy the black too!
Date published: 2016-10-20
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Broken Lacing Issues I love the boots, love the style, love the fit BUT really hate how easily they break (not the shoelace, the cord) and the boots slouch. The lacing to tie up the boot breaks so that the laces cannot be threaded through. The first two breaks happened within three months from purchase. I sent back with the warranty and was refunded because they were unfixable. My refund ($266) wasn't enough to cover a replacement. I did not purchase the originals with a discount. The cord issue could easily be fixed if Sorel replaced the lacing cord with a stronger material. A rust proof / stainless steel metal would be ideal (like a thick tiger tail used in jewelry making). I'm pretty upset from shelling out the money for the warranty and than another chunk of money to Purchase replacement boots. However, I do appreciate that there is a warranty, but it's just such a stumbling block that the boots didn't last in the first place because this is one of the few cute options that work for women with thicker calves. I would choose a cobbler over sending back to sorel next time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lacing Broke and unwearable These boots are poorly designed. You have to pull the laces tight because it is wide in the ankle and then the lacing broke and now they are unwearable. I am just our of my warranty period and so I have had them to several repair shops and I have been told that they are not repairable. What a waste of $275.00 dollars. I do not recommend these boots to anyone!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You won't be sorry! These boots are so comfortable and stylish ! I got them in black. They are beautifully crafted and the hidden wedge is stunning. Living in the Pacific Northwest I know boots, and these are winners! Keep up the good work Columbia & Sorel!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Winner I purchased 3 pairs of shoes from Sorel and these are by far the best in terms of style, quality, and accuracy of sizing. I got the pebble with the very blue laces. They fit well but just a little loose. I haven't worn them around yet, so I hope that in the winter with socks they are just right and don't wiggle around too much. Beautiful, unique, stylish boots

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cate the Great is Great Purchased the boot through Mountain Hardwear's site, loved the style. Received the boots as predicted and wore them for a night out, it is like walking on a cloud. I have bad arthritis in both knees so I wasn't sure how the height would work...but I LOVE..LOVE...LOVE the style and fit (I have big calf's and wasn't sure they would fit). They are fashionable and stylish. I will be a Sorel Gurl from now on

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super slinky boot! I was surprised at how soft the leather is, like thick leather on a bound journal... it's not a "supportive" boot, but I like the softness on my calf, also very comfortable on bare legs. The footbed is extremely cushioned, not hard like some high-end boots, also I think there is a hidden platform in the wedge that makes these very comfortable, I'm able to walk for hours in these without pain. I went a half size up so I can wear boot socks, which is perfect. The toe is nice and roomy, but doesn't appear wide. These boots get lots of compliments, and I love them!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Versatile with one oversight I hate that I had to give this just a good rating, but this is an honest review! These are great boots, and even with the one flaw I still recommend them! I actually do wear them daily and during all seasons. Their style is great (I love fashion) and functionality is unparalleled. This includes winter since I no longer work outside (I spend an hour max at a time) which we easily get -30. I seal mine with wax to keep my feet dry, and this way I don't need any other boot in my life. Great tread, ankle support, and soft rubber soles are ideal for where I live. I can drive standard comfortably, hike, and ride horses! Obviously I'll be buying a new pair easily every couple of years with how mandatory they've become for my lifestyle. Now for the design oversight, which is honestly easily fixed. But for the price I didn't expect to find it within the first two months. This was before winter and before I sealed them up. Notice how you're running the laces through the loops? Well sad thing is that with daily wear those loops will break. I recommend cutting them off entirely and lacing through the leather between them( this requires no sewing or other alterations). If there was one major change that I'd recommend for the company, I'd space the leather between differently so that the laces would cross between a broader space; and just skip the cord loops altogether. As it is the flaw is easily corrected. I don't regret the purchase, but if the company wants some real testing for design flaws, I'm very good at finding them. There's one other thing that would be an amazing alteration so that they're completely waterproof. But if they want to change it, I'd expect a set for the idea. I've already given them enough, and given you all a simple solution to the main flaw that I found. This is still the best boot that I've ever seen in this price range. Well worth every penny!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from amazing! I wore these boots all day the first day I wore them and they were so comfortable. it didn't even feel like I was wearing a heel. they are also totally gorgeous. I wore them to a girlfriends party and someone asked if they could take a picture of my boots! I have received complements every time I have worn them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love, Love, Love I absolutely LOVE these boots! I thought at age 48 they might be a bit "young" for me. But they look great with everything from skirts to jeans to leggings. AND they are very comfortable. They are well made and very sturdy. I think they will go out of style before I wear them out. But they are getting worn every chance I can put them on! I really like the fact that I can tie them. I have narrow, petite calves these boots cinch around my legs and would be very flattering to any size calf!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect winter shoe Have been loving these boots all winter. I'm 5'3'' and the wedge has given me the extra height boost, while still be completely comfortable. I work in production and sometimes need to be on set all day, and these shoes held up by keeping me warm and comfortable. As well as many compliments and questions as to where they could get them!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful Boot. I love my boots. The only thing I would recommend is maybe a zipper on the side to zip and unzip easily.. it takes a lot of time just to put on the boot and take it off. Other than that, i get wonderful compliments on the boots and they feel great. Great grip on ice and in snow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my Cate's From the I time put on, to wearing all day long with no discomfort, on the first day. Will continue to buy their style of boots, due to lasting comfort & style. Bought a 7, wanting 7.5, well they are true to size, even with thick wool socks. My calves are 15", most boot shaft won't fit that comfortably, well these provide that plus extra give! Hope this helps out those ladies that have problems finding boots to fit the calves:) Very, very happy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these boots! I ordered these boots after seeing them in two different places and pining for them for months. The first catalog didn't have my size. When I finally found them on the Sorel website I couldn't wait to get them. I've worn them nearly every day since they arrived. I was expecting them to be snug since I can sometimes wear a 9.5. After reading the other reviews that said they run large I thought the 9 would be perfect and they nearly are. I wear with socks and it's no problem. The boots look great, they wear well, they are easy to wear all day and walk distances, and the treads are very sturdy. The only draw back is that the close is exclusively laces and they tend to loosen slightly toward the bottom which can cause some bunching about the ankle. I tried experimenting with the tightness and I've discovered it's better if they aren't cinched down too tightly. I highly recommend these boots. They are super cute, fashionable, durable and practical. I love them!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cute boots but bad design I have been eyeing these boots since they first came out. Living in Chicago I wanted a cute but dependable boot. Looking at them they exceed all expectations. Do not buy if you have small calves and legs like me. No matter what I do around my ankles get loose. I'm always having to tighten them.. Now comes a serious problem. The laces are starting to wear and rip. I'm worried in another month they will completely bust.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love my Cate the Great Wedge Boots! These are great boots - super comfortable and stylish too. I usually wear an 8 and had to order a 7.5 in these because my heel was slipping in the 8 - I was afraid that might cause a blister. I love the brown color and they look great with skinny jeans, rolled up jeans, and skirts/dresses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful, comfortable, and versatile I am all about comfort & function, without neglecting style and am pleased to say this boot does all of these! Great for a frigid night out when you still want to take the dress up a notch. Solid tread on the bottom for ice & rain. I would buy in other colors - made extremely well, like all of Sorel's products. I wear an 8.5 in most models, and this one fit perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LoVe! LovE! need in every color!! This boot is EVERYTHING , ladies!!! I have not had any "issues" w/ sloughing around to ankle , like stated in previous reviews... They are ridiculously comfortable!!! (honestly, I wasn't expecting them to be this comfortable!) I want to live in them!!! a MUST have!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love this boot I received this boot as a Xmas gift, love the style and the fit is comfortable to walk in all day for me. But as others have stated the lacing at ankle, buckle and bulge out when sitting. I love the leather design and fit. Getting compliments every time I wear them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful boots, fit depends on leg shape The boots themselves are stunning. They are a little loose/bunchy around the ankles on me though (I have skinny ankles and wider calves, and I'm only 5'2"). After seeing the pics in an earlier review where the loops for the laces broke I'm scared to lace them tight enough to fit properly though. They still look good, just not as good as they might if they were more fitted. Having said that, the boots are very comfortable to walk in - I walked about 50 blocks in them the first time I wore them and my feet didn't hurt at all - and low maintenance. They're perfect for days when it might rain but you don't want to wear rain boots in case it doesn't. For my leg shape I prefer the Joan of Arctic wedge for fit and for sturdiness of construction around the laces (if Sorel made a knee-length version of those next year I'd buy them in every colour!). Recommend getting them a half size larger if you've got wide feet and/or plan to wear them with thick socks in winter.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Laces Riped out after less than 90 Days These boots are some of the best looking boots on the planet! After searching for months and finally deciding to spend $300 on boots, how disappointing to find out that the material is not made to last. If the designer would have just taken the Joan of Arctic lace concept I think It would have eliminated the bunching at the ankles and stopped the laces from ripping right out. Great Idea but cheap Design, major flaws

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome boots! I was hesitant about the boots because of the laces. I have found these boot to not only be stylish, but comfortable and easy to get on and off. It's kind of fun having to lace up, but its really not an effort. The leather is the best quality and my feet stay warm ( and I am one to always get cold feet ). I highly recommend these boots. They are the fun and functional boot for the winter…saw the shorter version recently on the Anthropology website. I had no idea I was being trendy I just liked the look. Get them, they are worth it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cute but slouchy I had very high hopes for these boots after reading the reviews (probably too high), and I do really like them but would like to add some caveats: - As a couple others have mentioned, the leather is very soft (almost like calfskin) and slouches down no matter how tightly you lace them up. This means bunching about the ankles, which isn't particularly uncomfortable but definitely doesn't make for a sleek look. I have narrow ankles but not particularly skinny calves, so I don't think this is a body-type specific effect. - The slouching has two effects: it makes the boots look even more casual/rustic, which works for the brown color I bought, and it also decreases the shaft height. They come to about 3" below my knee because of the slouching...and I'm only 5'4." - The wedge heel adds the height that the slouching takes away, and is very stable but does still feel a bit like a heel with a low arch. Altogether still pretty comfortable (and I have low tolerance for uncomfortable shoes). - The brown looks a little clunkier than in the picture, perhaps due to the round toe and the wedge. - I got a 7.5, which is maybe a tad big (it's my 'sneaker' size, dress shoe size is 7) but fits pretty comfortably with thick socks or two thin ones. Bottom line: If you want a cute, rustic, casual, comfy boot for chilly but not cold weather, this is great...though I wouldn't pay full price (I got $30 off via Sundance- better than nothing). If you want a more versatile style, I would look elsewhere. I can't speak to how the black version looks, though I imagine I would be more disappointed with the slouchiness in that color - it looks like it should be sleek. And the quality is very nice, but the thinness and softness of the leather makes me wonder about the durability.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bummed - Had To Send Them Back I received this boots as a gift and was THRILLED! However, after putting them on and wearing them around the house, I noticed that the shaft kept slipping down and the leather was pooling around my ankles. No matter how tight I pulled the laces, they would eventually become loose and the same situation would happen. Hot boots...just not the best for those with skinny calves. =(
