Rated 3 out of 5 by Recommended for Casual Hiking At Most I am a wildlife biologist who spends at least 12 hours each day on off-trail, rugged terrain where boots are crucially important. These boots held up to the South African bush for 4 months perfectly, and then quickly deteriorated into an unwearable condition. As noted from other reviewers - both the rubber toe-pads at the end of the boot became unattached, which then allowed the boots to welcome a plethora of dirt, water, mud and insects into the depths of my sole. Various other seams along the sides also became unattached around month 5. However, the traction on these boots is unrivaled for other boots I have tried, and the comfort was incredible until they lost their water resistance. This would be a great casual hiking boot, but I would not recommend it for intensive field work. August 24, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Small toe box height I have owned a few SORELs in my day and I was excited by this style of boot. I wear a size 15, medium or D width. This shoe fits as I would expect, with the exception of the toe box height. It's low headroom in there, and for whatever reason, my big toes felt too much pressure, especially when the shoe flexed while walking. I've never had a problem of this nature with a shoe before. I can't speak to the durability of the shoe as I returned them for a refund. I had to rate these as poor because of the fit, but that doesn't seem to be a fair rating because they likely fit for the vast majority of people. June 1, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Unbelievably Disapointed I purchased the Ankeny Mens Hiker near the end of February 2015. I purposely waited a bit to write the review so that I could see how the shoes were in spite of other reviews I had read before buying. In my second week of owning, I noticed that the rubber which wraps around the toe of the left shoe began to come away from the shoe. It didn't come all the way off, but it began to come up. Two weeks after, the right shoe began doing the same. Just today, this evening I went to tie my shoes and noticed that the stitching on the left heel is came undone. Now if I had actually used these shoes as hiking boots I might understand how this could be. But I these shoes have never been on a trail, or anything other than concrete and the occasional dirt of walking on grass. This is the second pair of Sorel's I've owned that ended up disappointing me. Wow, April isn't even over yet, and two months of normal wear proved to be too much for the Mens Ankeny Boot. After this, I don't think I will ever purchase another pair of Sorel's again. April 28, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by wonderful This boot is the ONLY boot my son will wear. It is very easy for me as we have had 2 pairs so far and he wears them every day....summer and winter...they are true to size..have toe room and good for his knees as they have support. They are nice looking as well and durable. April 25, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Not waterproof Had these for a couple of months when my feet started to get wet. After minimal use, the sole started to separate from the boot allowing water/ice/snow to penetrate. Definitely a poor product. Would not recommend. April 21, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good Boot This boot was a little larger in size than I anticipated. The length is good but is larger in the toe area than I would prefer. I think this will help in the winter though for warmth. I could also fix some of the size issue with a sole insert. I have had this boot in the pouring rain and it did great. I barely looked wet. It looks good and I look forward to next winter to really try them out. March 27, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by ANKENY MID BOOT - 1 Month Use First off, this is one of the better boots that I've owned. The traction is great, they keep my feet warm in -0º F conditions, and they look great. I live in Western New York, and with the conditions we've had this winter, these boots "so-far" have been a blessing.... Why I'm rating these boots as "fair" and also do not recommend them, is because they need to fix the design. After only a month, my feet started getting wet, even with the "waterproof" construction. I'll explain.. In stride when your heal lifts, but toe stays planted, the boot flexes at the toe box. The targeted area where the boot flexes, is where the vulcanized rubber outsole starts and ends, wrapping around the toe of the boot. The rubber, from normal use (I wear these to work, and walking the dog), is separating from the leather. Now the boot has an entry way for water and dirt to enter the boot. I'm very disappointed with these boots, as my previous pair of Sorel's lasted about 6-7 years of regular use in winter conditions. This has only been a month. Like I said, the boot is overall a nice boot. Although, if one function of the boot fails, the boot all together fails the consumer. Attached is a picture of my foot in the boot, applying slight pressure on the toe. You can see the rubber separating from the leather.. Again, I'm not trying to put down the brand or craftsmanship. My feedback will hopefully aid to re-engineer a solution to this boots flaw. March 17, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Slip and Slide boots These boots are the worst I've ever purchased to date. Don't waste your money.. They only provide a bit of traction during compact snow, else, they provide no grip to any surface at all. Also, the strap located in the upper back portion of the shoe, which assist you in slipping on your shoes popped off. I can't stress it enough How bad the soles slip.. Zero traction. these shoes are worth zero dollars March 6, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect Perfect for snow and all weather conditions. March 5, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Purchase Bought these boots as a Christmas present for my husband. Was hesitant because he is never satisfied when someone other than himself is buying something for him. He actually started wearing them when it began snowing in February. He raved about the comfort and fit. He said you really did good this time! He won't take them off! I am so excited that I bought them! Thanks Sorel for such a quality boot! March 3, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by overall a good boot, but... I love Sorel boots and have owned many pairs. The men's ankeny was a good purchase at first. I used it as a work boot for bartending as it provided good traction and ankle support. Recently, however, the left boot's heel guard started coming detached. It is now fully separated from the boot except at the base. This is disappointing. I'm taking the boots back to the store where I bought them to see if they will replace them. If they don't, I'm contacting Sorel customer service to see what can be done. I've had the boots less than 6 months and I expect much more life from a Sorel product. February 26, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Men"s Ankeny mid boot My husband says this boot is the lightest and most comfortable boot he owns. He has a wide toe area and it fits him very well. February 22, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Truly Waterproof I purchased these boots with the expectation that they would be waterproof as it said on the label. In the past I have been disappointed in the quality of boots that I have bought but these have exceeded my expectations February 11, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Nice These boots are awesome. Waterproof, great snow traction, comfortable and warm. Perfect for the 2015 NYC blizzard that never was. January 28, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by awesome boots Not heavy very comfortable perfect fit slim design very warm January 23, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by I like them a lot. These boots look great and are very comfortable. They keep my feet warm and are almost too hot to wear inside, but I've worn them all day at work indoors and been ok. I've been able to wear them in the rain and in wet snow and so far they have kept my feet dry. I have only had them for a couple of weeks so I'm not sure about durability but they seem sturdy. I wouldn't mind getting the black pair as well. January 22, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Almost perfect The boot has a great fit and feel. It's light but durable and waterproof. It's even pretty warm. They're boots that feel like sneakers. I like the rubber on the toe and heel, those parts are wear a boot first starts to break down. They look pretty good too. My one complaint is that they have awful traction, requiring the purchase of those over-the-shoe things for Maine winter. Or you WILL fall. December 10, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Keepers - but my insoles may push tonge too high I usually wear size 11 and these 11s seem fine. I also purchased pedag boot insoles from Amazon which make these super comfy for me. I have one gripe about the tongue possibly being too narrow to protect me from the top rows of the metal grommet things. If the laces are not tight the tounge slips left or right such that I feel the metal things. I am conflicted that this could be my issue due to my high arches and the insoles lifting my feet. With the right socks and tighter laces I don't have issues. The boots look great and felt comfortable on day 1. December 10, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by disappointed I have had a problem with these boots giving me a blister on my right foot. left foot fine but painful rubbing on the right. have other sorels fit fine, very disappointed.W December 6, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by What I was looking for. . . First true to size. If you like to wear thin socks then size could be a bit loose. If you like to wear thicker socks with this type of boot then it will be true to size. Boots are comfortable, water proof as promised, easy to clean. Looks good with many types of outfits. Only issue I have is the clasps at top of boot lose their grip on laces pretty easily, I have had to retie my boots often while wearing. December 6, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Did I just find the best boots ever? I've been looking at boots for some time and couldn't come to a consensus. I came across these randomly and didn't look back. They're the perfect winter casual boot that you can where all day long. They look great and are extremely comfortable. The quality is also amazing considering the price. They ran large for me so I ordered half a size down, which fits perfectly. December 4, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by love my boots Ordered these on a whim online, they came in and are extremely light and comfortable as well as completely waterproof. I recommend these to anyone! November 30, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Too much room Beautiful boot. There was just too much room at the top of the toe bed. It made the fit feel loose. I had a thick sock on hoping it would bridge the gap, but no luck. Size fit well otherwise. Really nice boot. Hope sizing improves in the future. November 6, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by perhaps the BEST shoe i have ever purchased i just got this today and am bLoWN away by the beauty of these boots, on all counts. after talking on the phone with the very helpful people at Sorel i was convinced to simply order my dress/normal shoe size of 11.5 vs. my nike size of 12, adidas size of 12.5 or western boot size of 11. they gave me centimeters to go by which was extremely helpful, and it nailed it. i sat in the UPS parking lot trying them on just hours ago (on a flat cardboard box in case i needed to return them) and was surprised at the quality, uniformity of both boots (i've purchased $380 lucchese boots, $180 dan post boots, etc. that had to go back because one boot was longer or wider than the other, so this is NOT a trifle!). the fit beautifully, were not overhot hear in calif with my thin normal dress socks, but would certainly warm up if one wore some thermals, and very pleasing was how incredibly good they looked. not big and clunky like so many boots, but actually fuller and better looking than the manufacturer photos which got me to buy them in the first place. the manufacturer pics are great, but tend to make these look like a very cool high top classic sneaker...which i like, but do not be fooled, these are beautifully designed classic Maine-style waterproof boots that look like something straight from the 1940s (again, why i purchased). after putting them on and stepping off the cardboard on to the asphalt, knowing they were keepers, i popped in the car to do some shopping and unlike some of my other light hiking boots, these fit comfortably but were not at all unwieldy leadfooting it in my V-8. the only issue was while shopping i kept looking down at how great these looked with my straight leg faded jeans...risking not seeing where i was going. but these are by far one of the classiest, sharpest looking, best styled, most comfortable boots i've ever put on. i'm a cowboy boot guy when not working, but this may cut into that. while i've owned them only one day, i've seen many boots, and felt how they feel, and these look and feel like the darn best constructed boots you can get. i hope Sorel doesn't read this (wink wink) but these could easily sell at this quality and look for twice the price. they are the biggest deal out there at $135 if you like this type of boot. and 'this type of boot' doesn't just mean a winter H20 proof boot as these look and feel so good i'm wearing them here in LaLaLand in the middle of summer with light socks and not fully shoelaced up, and they are super comfortable. Rated 5 out of 5 by Great all-around boot I've used this boot for everyday activities as well as hiking, motorbiking, and piloting. It's got good traction, stays warm, dries quickly, and is quite comfortable, even after a long day of standing. I purchased a tobacco colored pair and am considering a black pair for variety.
