Reviews

Men's 1964 Pac™ Nylon Boot is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The older model 1964 Pac T in leather I bought a pair of the older 1964 Pac boots a couple of years back, when they were made in leather, on a post-winter clearance sale. I have used them occasionally in the Portland area winters. But this winter ('16-'17) I have pretty much lived in them around the house due to the snow, ice and arctic winds. I did swap out the original polyester liners for LaCrosse wool felt liners. The Pacs have performed excellently keeping my feet dry and warm. There's nothing like a Pac boot in this kind of winter weather. And there's no Pac boot out there that surpasses my Sorels.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Uncertain about boots, good Customer service My 1 month old boots had some dry rotted rubber, which I returned to Sorel. I can't fault their customer service who happily and helpfully replaced them for me. Sincere thanks to them. Since this, I've taken more time to read the 1 star reviews, seeing that rubber issues are always the weak point on these. As a consumer I'm at a crossroads, either my replacement pair will last well and I'll sing their praises; or the rubber will fail again and I'll turn away from the brand, never to return again. Perhaps more care should be taken in choosing the suppliers who make these boots? I.e. ensuring that the rubber compound is up to the task in the long term?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product The boots are just as pictured and twice as comfortable. My roommate ordered a pair and loved them so I bought these. His fit a little loose on him so I ordered mine a half size down from my norm and they fit perfectly. With the liner I don't even half to worry about thick socks. My feet stay warm no matter what!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from True to size? No chance! Love the boots, well enough made but the tag line "true to size", by it would seem to be a fair few people, simply cannot be correct. I am from the UK, I am a EU size 45, UK size 11 meaning I should be a US size 12. Bought these boots on the internet (sadly couldn't get a chance to try any on in a store) a size down, so a US size 11 knowing full well they would probably run big. Had to return them and I am now wearing a US size 9.5 which are still slightly too big. I've no idea what people thing true to size means but it certainly doesn't equate to these boots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tough Boots, Excellent Crafstmanship I gave a so so review to another pair of Sorels due to an eyelet breaking - but those boots have withstood some serious abuse and have held up really well. So after studying a lot of cold weather boots and since these were available and on sale, I got a pair. They surpass my expectations, are warm and a made extremely well. I strongly recommend them.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Leaky I have had these boots for a year, and now one of them is leaking very badly -- it's like there is water slushing around inside it. And it is not being used to walking in water, just in the rain and wet snow. It's too bad, because they are otherwise good boots, but they're not much use if they leak.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Too large I took the measure as per FIT GUIDE, the result is that the boot was too large. I spent a lot of money to send the boots back, bad experience. Never again buy shoes on internet.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good boot for heavy snow! I bought these for my husband and they are perfect. He liked them and he said that they are comfortable. i ordered a half size up. They do look big in the box but once you put them on they are fine. These were on sale so we got them because of that. I think for the price these were just perfect!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Bought these for my son and have not had one complaint about feet or cold or wet except they eat his socks. Would definitely buy again. I have had the same pair of boots for 25 years and they are just now starting to leak.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Goooooood boots I have had these boots for almost 2 years now. They are still holding out well. In my profession i do a lot of walking even in the winter. And that is walking on both snow and concrete and the tread is still holding out. Very warm and comfortable. They go well with dress pants too. :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from very narrow and tight in the ankle generally this size is quite roomy for me, but I couldn't even get the boot on. the ankle space was so narrow and there was no give with the lacings in that section of the boot. that was barefoot. I can't imagine trying it with socks. I have several pair of Sorel's and was shocked - I even double checked the size. No luck. Fortunately my son is just about in that size so they should work fine for him if we catch it early.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cool looking boot, with some compromises. This is a winter boot that has a great classic look, but is a little low on functionality and warmth, when compared to serious winter gear. It's basically a rubber duck boot with a nylon upper sewn into it, and a waterproof barrier on the back side of the nylon. Then a (removable) felt liner is stuffed in to give it insulation for warmth. This is old school simplicity, and it works reasonably well. The boots are also fairly comfortable, and look very cool. Though, if you're looking for a serious boot that really performs, this might come up a bit shy. The insulation is adequate, but not super warm. I'd consider it equal in warmth to 400G insulated boots from other manufacturers. Though, over time the felt liner compresses. The fit gets more sloppy, and the warmth goes south a little as well. The liners are replaceable, but the price isn't insignificant. The nylon is good to keep the weight down, but doesn't provide the ankle support of leather, which is stiffer. It looks cool though, and makes the upper pliable. They're easy to put on and take off. The sole is considerably thinner than I expected it to be. It makes for a comfortable boot with a lot of give to it. But you do loose heat through the bottoms of your feet when walking on cold surfaces. I haven't had them long, so I can't comment on longevity. The construction is ok, though a little less robust than I thought they would be. These are good for shoveling snow in the driveway, or going out to the bar in bad weather. But for serious conditions (working outside, or walking far away from home), i'd look elsewhere. Either step up to a more robust Sorel, or a boot with new tech. Modern insulation and waterproof membranes have allowed manufacturers to make boots that are warmer than this with considerably less bulk, and without the sloppy fit. Different boots for different purposes. I'd consider this a fashion boot that's pretty high on utility. But it doesn't quite have the construction or design for me to trust them for serious winter conditions. The flip side, this is a great looking boot that has enough utility for small outdoor tasks, but won't completely overheat your feet indoors. I think that's more of the aim of the design, and for that, it does pretty well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Go-To Winter boot Love the boots. I am an attorney and wear these all the time in inclement weather. Got for the look and the utility (waterproof, removable inserts). Can tuck pants into easily. I'm a 9.5 wide width and went with a size ten. Fits great. One note however (as other reviewers have noted as well) the boots require some breaking in. Out of the box they can rub up against your leg and cause skin abrasions. Some breaking in though and the boots wear comfortably.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from awesomw I brought theSe boots for my 17yr old son, must say they are the nicest and I was kinda jealous that I had sent mine back without even trying them. They fit pretty much true to size, stylish, would definitely recommend

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great boot This snug but true to size fitting boot really is a sturdy boot. It has the feel of an all-leather boot in terms of sturdiness but the waterproof nylon makes the boot light. The liner is well-constructed and is interchangable and the boot is attractive as well. I've owned a pair of Sorel Caribou and this is my second pair of winter boots and I'd buy them again. Going further, I'd recommend these to family and friends and would buy them for my husband & kids.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pac '64 boots No need to order in wide size, plenty of room inside. Liner is plush and pliable but very sturdy, seems it would keep boot stable on slim feet as well. I live in Norway, so these boots have gotten a thorough testing. Bottoms are medium thickness, probably not suitable for negotiating sharp rocks, but well suited for everyday winter trekking. Tread is ok, side-to-side grip is fair, front-to-back grip is good but not great, would not recommend for extreme hiking, but then Sorel makes a great glacier boot. I've not once experienced cold toes or ankles even during day-long excursions, and the only moisture inside seems to be from condensation, not from leakage. Overall a great winter boot, and waterproof enough to keep feet dry and warm all day even in deep heavy snow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Canadian winters I would definetly recommend this boot for anyone who spends alot of time outdoors during winter. Personally my work requires i spend at least an hour a day walking outdoors usually through areas that have not undergone snow removal. My feet stay dry when i get home and compared to alot of other styles of boots these ones are actually fashionable enough to wear with a pear of jeans or something on your days off.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Keeps Ankles warm, at least... I purchased these boots based upon the reviews. Today's weather was about 30deg with a little snow so I wore them for the 1st time with a pair of Wool sox. My toes were still a little cold but the ankle was very warm. Also the boot is very big/clunky on the foot so walking is a little odd but I'm sure they will be great for sloppy winter weather but not good for standing as I wait for the bus to keep my toes warm.
